I started taking a statin years ago as a preventative. I was 40 I think. My last cholesterol test was extremely good, I have both kidneys and they function well - so proof to me that you shouldn’t be concerned. 🤗
I’ve refused a statin for years. My cholesterol is good. I had a cardiac calcium score test done a few years ago to basically silence my doctors. They still mention it when I see them annually, but I politely decline.
I’m more focused on well controlled A1c under 5.2%. Well controlled diabetes is the leading cause of nothing. And statins have side effects - one being elevated blood sugar.
I think it is good medicine, I was placed on it and it saved my kidney when I did not know it needed saving. I wish I had started sooner,I now have one CKD and one kidney.
