LADA (Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults), also known as Type 1.5 diabetes, shares characteristics with type 1 diabetes. Like T1D, LADA is an autoimmune condition where the body produces antibodies that attack insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas.

The key difference is that LADA develops more gradually than typical type 1 diabetes. While T1D is often diagnosed in children and teens, LADA typically appears in adults between 30-50 years old. People with LADA initially still produce some insulin, but over time the pancreas becomes unable to make enough insulin. The condition is diagnosed through blood tests that check for specific autoantibodies. These antibodies aren't present in type 2 diabetes, which helps doctors make the correct diagnosis.

Treatment plans are personalized based on blood sugar levels, and insulin therapy becomes necessary as the condition progresses.
