I am using Tandem with G7, and I want to switch to an Omnipod. I realize the Omnipod does not yet use G7, but when it does, I want to switch. Has anyone stopped using a tubed pump and gone to Omnipod while they are still in the five-year period after acquiring their regular pump? I started tandem two years ago.
Hi Rick, Yes I use an Omnipod. I was shown all the pumps and wanted no tubes so got an Omnipod. I use a dexcom 6 with it and I feel it works great for me. Talk with your Dr. and they should be able to advise you! Remember, it’s your choice, not theirs. They just need to advise and write the prescription. To me, I feel the Omnipod is the closest to having a working pancrease.
I’m on Medicare with BCBS supplement and don’t pay for my Omnipod except 1-2 times a year and then it’s around $300.
I did OmniPod 5 for about 7 months. I didn't mind it at all. No tubes to get caught on things. Then the new year started and my insurance out of pocketed me and I could not afford them anymore. It had a problem with bringing down a high, but I would just go in and bolus. Not too big of a deal. So easy to change out, and never had a problem with them failing. They are considered a pharmacy benefit, so if you don't like it, you can switch back to a Tandem or a Medtronic if you want.
