How can you regain weight after losing 30 pounds since your type 1 diabetes diagnosis?

Weight loss is common when first diagnosed with type 1 diabetes because your body can't use glucose for energy without enough insulin. The good news is that weight loss is typically reversed once you start treating your diabetes with insulin therapy.

Here are some key strategies to help you regain weight:

Work with your healthcare team:
* Ensure your insulin therapy is properly adjusted and optimized
* Stay well-hydrated, as adequate hydration can also help with weight gain
* Consider meeting with a registered dietitian who can help you create a nutritious eating plan

Focus on nutrition:
* Eat a diet rich in proteins and healthy fats
* Include nutrient-dense foods with vitamins and minerals
* Monitor your carbohydrates to better balance your insulin therapy
* Don't skip meals or snacks

Address hypoglycemia:
If you're experiencing frequent low blood sugar episodes, they might be causing your body to burn through calories too quickly or making it harder to maintain weight. Talk to your doctor about adjusting your insulin doses if needed.

Be patient with yourself - regaining weight in a healthy way takes time. Your healthcare team can monitor your progress and make adjustments to help you reach a healthy weight safely.

My mom had the same problem. Her doctor had her drink Glucerna shakes to add extra calories to her meal(s). I know she would have one with either lunch or dinner, or both. On this, I'm not sure. Check with your doctor or nutrtionist. It will probably depend on how many calories you need to add to gain to be a healthy weight.
