The Red Cross encouraged Type 2 diabetics to give so those that didn’t understand the difference caused an issue.
Liz~ I'm curious about your situation. Do you know if whoever was medically in charge of the blood donation program where you worked would have accepted a blood donation from a T1D?
No no never never!!🙂
I was always told don't, both from diagnosis itself as well as medications
Before I was diagnosed with Type 1 I donated blood fairly regularly. I hadn't given it any thought until I read the question so I googled it for my area. As per Diabetes Canada people with Type 1 are now (effective 2021) permitted to donate blood (with certain understandable limitations (see article)). It's too soon for me to even think about it as I'm new to the Type 1 club and am just trying to figure things out but it's something I will talk to my endocrinologist about for sure.
